I have no depth to me
I look only to the surface
That being enough for me
The details that makes me whole
Are lost in an errant glance
A lackadaisical effort
that only leaves a hole
Surprised at myself
Truth to be told
That’s just a farce
I know what I am
I’m nothing but lazy
Leaving my brain hazy
Feeling a void to be filled
As I muse over my shortcomings
I find solace in knowing
Because it marks the beginning of my journey to doing
What am I?
A mediocre at best
A sham to be honest
The above poem was written at a time in my life when I believed my mistakes defined me. I have since learned that my identity is separate from the mistakes I made. I’ve made peace with myself. If you can relate to the feelings in the poem above, you need to work on self-forgiveness. Read my post on self-forgiveness: the best way to start your growth journey to learn more.
